What to Do If Your
Solar Installer Went Out of Business
When a solar installer goes out of business, many homeowners are left asking the same question: “Is my solar panel warranty still valid?” The answer depends on the type of warranty you have.
Most solar panels and inverters include a manufacturer’s warranty (typically 10–25 years) that remains valid even if your original solar company shuts down. This coverage protects against equipment defects and performance issues. To file a claim, you’ll usually need to work directly with the manufacturer or through a new certified solar repair company.
However, the workmanship warranty—the part that covers installation quality, roof penetrations, and wiring—is tied to the solar installer. If your solar company is no longer in business, that portion of your warranty is usually void.

Solar Panel
Warranties
If your solar installer went out of business, you may be wondering what that means for your solar panel warranty and long-term system care. The good news is that most solar panels and inverters include a manufacturer’s warranty (10–25 years) that remains valid, even if your original installer is no longer around. These warranties protect your equipment from defects and performance issues, but you’ll need a trusted provider to handle the claim process and complete any solar panel repairs.
The challenge is with the workmanship warranty. Since this coverage is tied to your installer, it usually becomes void when the company closes. That leaves you responsible for solar panel fixes related to wiring, roof penetrations, or installation quality.

I was sold a 20 year warranty and my company went out of business. Do I still have any warranty?
Maybe. Depending on what equipment was used, and when your system was installed, you may still have a manufacturers warranty, panels, inverters, micro-inverters, that could cover the components and possibly some of the labor to change them out if they fail.
Unfortunately, the rest of the electrical components, labor, penetrations into your roof would not have a warranty.
Does Modern Day Energy work with the manufacturer warranty?
Yes, we will work with your equipment manufacturer to help initiate your warranty claim!
I don’t have access to my monitoring anymore, and my company went out of business. What do I do?
Modern Day Energy can help! Every system is different and we can get your monitoring set back up.
Does cleaning affect my warranty? / Do I have to clean every so often to keep my warranty valid?
Cleaning will not affect your warranty, but keeping your panels clean will help increase your solar power production and can alert you to potential issues such as bird nesting before they become a problem. It is also important to use a licensed and insured contractor for this work.
